# Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP): release dates, results and history

Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) last printed 29K on Fri, Oct 2, 2026 against a 90K consensus forecast and a 162K prior, a -0.85 standard-deviation surprise. Captured live by Helious the moment it printed.

Outside an FOMC decision, nothing on the calendar moves macro like Jobs Friday. What it counts is simple, the jobs the economy added or lost last month, but that number sets the terms of the Fed argument until the next one lands. While hiring holds up, the Fed can afford to sit still. Once payrolls crack, cuts get pulled forward. Revisions to earlier months land in the same release and routinely matter just as much as the new number.

The official published series at its current vintage, revisions included, so the newest point can differ from the number as first printed. The release-by-release history, with the consensus forecast and standard-deviation surprise on every row, comes through the [Helious API](https://helious.io/developers/).

## How it moves Treasuries

A payrolls beat sells Treasuries off, so prices fall and yields rise. A genuinely big surprise is worth 5 to 10bp on yields within minutes, and the front end, the shortest maturities, leads it. Average hourly earnings print in the same report, so a soft headline does not guarantee a rally. Wage heat on its own can flip the reaction.
